This girl at the gym caught my eye. I was convincing myself to go and talk to her. I felt my palms sweat and my mouth go dry. Most of these symptoms are supposed to happen just as you approach the girl, right? Well I’m unlucky. The very thought of approaching made me anxious.
I convinced myself to talk to her and at the very last moment, backed out. In my defense, I was going to miss the bus! I felt defeated.

Point being, we all make excuses. Everyone here is guilty of it and everyone knows one person that is filled with them. There are plenty of excuses hindering your ability to do something.
Today, as I was leaving the house, I saw the Everest College commercial. No, I’m not going to sign up for Everest, but I felt compelled to watch it.
No, Do It Right Now!
There isn’t anything or anyone stopping you from doing something. Only You. You are the master of yourself, plain and simple. We can always rationalize our actions or lack there of.
“I had to catch the bus!”
I have to overcome such things. Figure out creative ways around these situations. It’s the only way to progress through life. Here are your (and my) excuses.
A) I Don’t Have The Time
There are 24 hours in a day and granted you get 8-9 hours of sleep (please get at least eight hours of sleep), you have 15-16 hours of ‘awake’ time. Accounting for a full-time job or full-time school, you cut that in half. If you’re keeping up (my math skills are terrible!) that’s 8-9 hours of FREE TIME.
The 8-9 hours of free time can be spent literally doing anything. So, why not something productive? Right now, I encourage you to write down a goal you have (long or short term).
When I was younger, I used to be overweight and unhappy. I wrote down the goal “I want to be healthy.” In my mind at the time, it meant having a six-pack (I still don’t have a six pack) but I dedicated and continue to dedicate 1-2 hours of my time to the gym.
Time management is integral to growing stronger, both physically and mentally. Tomorrow when you wake up, write down EVERYTHING you do in chronological order. Make sure you write it down instead of trying to remember it.

At the end of the day, look at the list and see what you can cut out and substitute for your goal. When you do it, it’s amazing to see the amount of time you spend doing frivolous things. Time is precious.
B) I Don’t Have The Experience
You are told to believe that you need experience before you start something. You need to be good at something before you even start it? That doesn’t make sense. Start something and you will get good at it.
I remember when I tried to get my first job. I was rejected. People said, “I can’t hire you. You have no work experience.” I was fifteen and my work experience was practically non-existent.
Work around this. Get experience. Or better yet convince them that you’re better than the other person WITH experience.
And as for experience, you can literally learn anything from the Internet. I know a person that constantly uses this excuse. My answer is the same thing, every time. “Google it.”
Fact of the Matter…
There are plenty of excuses in the books. We can all rationalize to get out of something. The problem is we need to have a goal and want it bad enough that nothing can stop you.
Make time for it and build yourself up. One road leads you to a better self and the other spends 1-2 hours of precious time watching television. The choice is yours.
As for me, the next time I see that girl. I have to talk to her, missed bus or not.
